Coaching vs. Therapy.
A coaching session is highly structured, goal-focused, and action-oriented, primarily addressing your current situation and areas that need improvement. In this context, your coach acts as an accountability partner. In contrast, a therapy session often involves exploring the past—though this isn't always the case—to gain insights that help manage the present. My personal approach to conducting therapy sessions is also quite structured. As your therapist, I can provide a diagnosis, and we will work on reducing symptoms and improving functioning. With coaching, we will also enhance functioning, but there will be no focus on symptomology or diagnosis. It is also important to note that most coaches do not have master’s degrees and/or are licensed mental health practitioners. My license gives me a wider scope in which to support clients.
If you are unsure what type of assistance you need right now, please reach out to schedule a consultation. Keep in mind that I provide therapy and coaching in Massachusetts, and coaching only elsewhere.
